Nicotine Protects Lung Cancer Cells from Chemotherapy
Researchers found that nicotine in patches or gum can protect cancer cells by helping them produce more proteins. This interferes with commonly used chemotherapy drugs used to treat lung-cancer patients. Researchers said this supports findings that patients who continue to smoke have worse survival rates.
