Alaska's Aging Oil Facilities Pose a Threat
Despite improvements made to oil tankers, there is a still potential for an oil spill disaster in the Prince William Sound region. However, the problem has shifted onshore to the aging pipelines and facilities. A small hole in a transit line, operated by BP Exploration, leaked 267,000 gallons of oil into a tundra for five days.
